Engineering sector to see boost from green commercial property projects

Green commercial property projects are boosting the engineering sector, according to one opinion.
There could be an improvement in the
engineering sector as more developers turn their attention to environmentally-friendly businesses
for sale.
Over the last few years, there has been a greater focus on building constructions that are more energy-efficient, such as putting
in solar panels or insulation.
And this has led Mark Tully, head of Roevin Engineering, to say a boost has been seen by the engineering
industry as a result.
He stated that the demand for green energy has been a "strengthening drive" to the sector, as it has meant that more
engineers are required in the utility and renewable divisions.
What's more, Mr Tully noted that the growing number of opportunities in the
construction industry may also come as good news to engineers, as they can get more involved in property development projects and capitalize on
companies looking to buy a business energy-efficient.
Indeed, it is not just companies
that are demanding renewable energy measures be put into their properties but also residential ones.
Director at the National Home Improvement
Council Andrew Leech said there is a "hell of a long way to go" before houses in the UK can achieve government targets.
These include making
80 per cent of the country's 26 million-strong housing stock emit zero carbon emissions by 2050.
While many homeowners may look to implement
energy-saving measures in their properties, Mr Leech suggested that there are some things that require more professional assistance.
He said
these include installing ground source heat pumps and air source heat pumps.
It does seem that the government would need to do a lot to reach
its ambitious green goals after the Renewable Energy Foundation revealed earlier this week that it actually failed to reach 2010's targets.
In
order to be on track, the UK needed to produce ten per cent of renewable electricity last year, whereas it felt short at 6.5 per cent.
