Green revolution 'will impact on commercial property'

Commercial property bosses will have to deal with the green revolution.

Those involved in commercial property at all levels are likely to be impacted by the continued rise of the green revolution in the UK.

New research from property consultant firm GVA has analysed the effect the growing desire to be eco-friendly will have on everybody from developers and users to local authorities.

Its report – entitled From Blue to Green Collar – explores the relevancy of being green and how it will change the fortunes of those using, building and renting out commercial property.

One of the key changes over the months and years to come is likely to be in construction and design, with demand for low-carbon buildings perhaps set to rocket among firms.

GVA believes the coalition government is doing all it can to keep the focus on the green economy within the UK, which could include incentivising environmentally-friendly procedures.

As well as building commercial property in a green way, firms will also find there is plenty of growth in the future in the area of sustainable refurbishment of existing office space.

Recycling items and reusing others will also become of paramount importance and will arguably trigger financial benefits to companies.

And everyday items in the business world – from computers and mobile phones to office lights – will have to become more energy efficient, as a reputation for being green becomes more important and cost savings increasingly desirable.

The report comes just days after the words of Bev Coombe, membership and communications manager at the National Insulation Association, were published.

She explained that insulation can significantly reduce the amount of carbon and other harmful materials companies release into the atmosphere, marking them out as businesses that care about the environment.

Ms Coombe noted that this is just one benefit of adding insulation technology to a commercial property or any other building.
