Group Texting App Groupme Opens to Businesses

One of the latest trends in smart phone texting is group texting, where users can text a group of friends or colleagues all at the same time and one of the main players in the game is Groupme. Groupme works from all mobile phones and will soon be all over the app markets near you, allowing users to group a batch of friends into categories, for example if I was meeting all my friends for a night out I could text them all at the same time with the location to meet. Creating a mini private social network with just handfuls of friends.

Now as with most things social, businesses want to get involved and capitalise on these markets and new niches, enter Groupme's Featured Groups.

Businesses and brands can create featured groups which will then show up when users create groups around similar topics to the business, once a user opts in, aswell as being involved in the brands group chat they also opt in to receive updates from the brand such as news, promotions, offers etc.

Groupme's first partners include MTV, Bon Jovi & Oxygen Media who will be creating suggested topics around its shows 'Bad Girls Club' and a new Paris Hilton show.

I would expect this to rapidly evolve and the offering improve as group texting itself becomes more popular.
